Larkspur has been an educator for over 15 years, teaching in several traditional colleges (UCDavis, Colby College, and Unity College) and for two transformative traveling college programs (Audubon Expedition Institute and Living Routes: Study Abroad in Sustainable Communities). She is passionate about transformative and progressive outdoor education. She brings the gifts of her enthusiasm, energy, positive outlook, and deep curiosity to her teaching. Larkspur loves finding and creating connections, whether among people, nature, or ideas. She is committed to being in wholehearted service and to life-long holistic learning.
As is true for all faculty for the Expedition programs, Larkspur brings a breadth of experience and knowledge to her mentoring and leading. A few of her particular interests center around social and environmental justice, indigenous rights and indigenous worldviews, privilege and power, progressive education and leadership, the Work That Reconnects, reflective and contemplative practice, non-violent and authentic communication, temperament, resiliency, transition town and related movements, natural history, ecology, and ecopsychology.
She served as faculty for the Audubon Expedition Institute from 2002-2009 and when the program was discontinued, she joined forces with a team to found the Expedition Education Institute (EEI). Larkspur dedicated herself to growing her non-profit leadership and management skills as the team founded the non profit and re-established the EEI programs and accrediting partnerships. She has served as board Vice President of Living Routes: Study Abroad in Sustainable Communities and also for a local land trust, the Sheepscot Wellspring Land Alliance, where she served as Vice President and Co-chair of the Education & Outreach committee.
Larkspur is inspired every day by the multitude of her former students and community members making a positive difference in the world and by the promise of future expedition students and faculty. Larkspur currently serves as the Executive Director of EEI.
