The Expedition Education Institute in partnership with Marlboro College offers traveling gap year and college programs focused within bioregions of North America. Full semester programs span up to 15 weeks with at least 12 weeks in the field and in community. Undergraduate students earn 15 college credits and gap year students may choose to opt for the college-level credit. Check out our Fall semester in the Pacific Northwest with a theme of Economy, Ecology, and Community, and our alternating spring semesters: Spring semester in California with a theme of Sustainable Culture and Agriculture and Spring semester in the Desert Southwest with a theme of Resilience and Renewal.

The EEI model supports you to develop capacities and build confidence in your articulation, expression, and creativity, as well as your leadership and group process abilities.
Students and faculty live and learn together, traveling in a custom retrofitted school bus, eating, sleeping, and studying outdoors while exploring the local and global environmental challenges that communities and ecosystems are facing. During their travels, the community examines and learns about the myriad sustainable solutions that represent the “blessed unrest.” We come to know the bioregion, ecologically, culturally, and socio-politically; and we come to know ourselves on a deeper level, individually and as part of a rich learning community.
Self-motivated students who have a passion for the environment and alternative or progressive education thrive at EEI. They are open to the challenges and rewards of hands-on learning and embrace the flexibility the program offers. If you have a sense of adventure, desire to be stretched intellectually and personally, yearn to create and live in a learning community of faculty and peer mentors, and want to deepen your ecological literacy and consciousness, the Expedition Education Institute has the program for you!
